Celebration II Diorama Workshop - Diorama Exibit Podiums

Saturday April 20, 2002
Having Mark let me use his workshop was just great. If I didn't work in computer FX I would probably be working in a workshop. It's so cool. It's like making Dioramas in life size :)
So we measured all our pieces and cut them all to size.

Mark made these cool Grooves in the wood so that it would better fit and make a stronger bond.

I used carpenters glue along the ridges to strengthen the bond. Once held together with clamps, I used the pnematic air gun to nail the pieces together.

About 3 hours later all the columns were assembled.

Since we put this much effort into the podiums already, why not go the extra mile :) Using wood putty I filled out all the cracks and the holes created from the nail gun. When dried, I will sand off the excess and we will have a perfectly smooth surface. No trace of joints.

In the meantime, mark was finishing up the bases and tops. He thought up the idea to place square pegs onto each piece so the would slip into each column and thus, would prevent wobbling.

And here are the assembled podiums. 10 dioramas will be on display at the Celebration II Diorama Workshop. Your chance to see Niubniub's creations up close :) The little stands in front of each podium are for personal info on that particular Dioramas creation. All that is left is some black paint and we are in business :)

10:30 AM...Start Painting the podiums. A simple design that looked very elegant once painted in black. I was so happy to have the gang from Indy Knights come by and help out with te set up. Some like Kerryn, coming all the way from Australia. Now that's a Star Wars fan :)

Almost done and looking good. Poor Kerryn is the only one left to do the dirty work ;P
The podiums only took about 1 hour to dry. On the table you can see the banner I designed to place above the front entrance. Turned out really Nice.

Well here you see the final line up all ready to go. This is really from Friday Morning but pretend it's Thursday night :) First on the right was Jason garner's Bespin Bolier Room diorama. Then Joe Amaro's Jedi council followed by my falcon, Leia's Plans and Gungan Sacred Head sculpt. Hiddedn behind that was Eric Plummer's Awesome Tantive IV Hallway. My bacta Medical Center, Vader's Secret, Carbon Freezing chamber and finally jason Garner's Dagobah Training. It was SO awesome to be able to share the spotlight with these guys. Their work is extraordinary and can be viewd in my Visitors Section.
