OK, I assume there must be a couple of you who enjoy the
Alien and Predator movies as well as Star Wars right? :P There
has been a lot of waiting for this film and expectations from
fans were high. Ever since seing the Alien Skull inside the
Ship in Predator 2. So what were they waiting for? I never
read the comics so I can't compare the movie to that, but
I can tell you what I saw I found very enjoyable. it may not
be the BEST movie ever made but I enjoyed it enough I look
forwards to seeing it again on DVD. Especially after being
told there was SO much cut out...more on this later...
My friend Hans is a member of the Visual Effects Society.
One cool aspect of being a member is getting invited to special
screenings like tonight, where most times, there is a Q&A
session with the FX producers after the show. So I was more
then happy when he asked me if I wanted to come along as his
guest :) A free movie and a live making of, what can be better
then that :) I will say that we were entering the theater
with the idea that the movie was going to be bad (more Hans
then I) based on what we saw on the net after opening weekend
results. I don't know if this is why I enjoyed the film as
much. I know sometimes when it is so hyped by your friends
- as say in Blair Witch - by the time you see it, you think
it's a piece of junk.
I loved how the pacing of the movie resembled movies of the
70's. Introduce the characters and have events happen slowly.
No MTV editing here. You know that eventually the humans will
get killed off one at a time, it is Alien and Predator after
all - LOL - but I found myself more into the story as say,
my experience with Alien 4. I really like the casting of nobody's
and having Lance Henrikson is a nice little wink to the other
movies. The only thing that really sucked was the ending.
When watching it, all of a sudden you are like...whoa...why
did we just skip 3 DVD chapters, who sat on the remote? LOL.
The FX guys told us after the film that a good 15 minutes
were chopped out of the film because of time and that fox
wanted a PG.
Did you know that the movie was filmed and edited as an R
rating - just like the other films - and that 2 weeks before
the release, Fox told the director to chop out the violence
and submit a PG movie. what the...? And I thought the problems
with Exorcist were bad LOL. This decision hurts the film in
that it gives a PC friendly version of chest bursters, predator
scalping and Alien Acid spraying. :( But fear not, we were
told it should be all restored for the DVD - WooHoo !!!.
If you want a better version, Im sure the DVD will pay off.
However, there are still more then enough great action and
fights to make it worth your ticket price. If doubtfull, go
on half price night. Do they have that in the US? I will definetely
buy this when it comes out DVD next winter.
