| Like many, I knew way too much
of this movie before entering the theater for the first time.
With the toys, gum cards and internet chat, it's almost as
if I knew where the film was going before it got there. I
also heard all the internet hype...It's the best Star Wars
since Empire and WAY better then Episode 1. Plus, since I
had to work opening night I was more and more excited to see
this movie. Finally I got my wish this weekend...So what happened?...
Lucasfilm Logo...Everyone cheered. Heck even at the Fox logo
they cheered :) Lots of energy in the room. My smile was as
wide as the grinches :) During the movie I laughed a lot,
I was in awe of the FX and LOVED the Clones and Applauded
as Yoda showed us his moves. When the credits came up, it
was strange. Did I like it or not? Yes. Was it better then
Episode 1? Not Sure, Certainly not as good as A New Hope and
Empire. What surprised me most was that I did not have that
feeling of "OOOHHHH, Lets get back in line, I have to
see it again NOW" It's like if I had to absorb the experience
for a while.
Turned out a while was 2 days - LOL. The second time I went
with a friend who knew NOTHING. No spoilers or any pictures
from magazines. NADA. Well I had more fun the second time
going in. I could enjoy the visuals and not worry about the
story or poor dialogue. The romance still does not work. How
hoacky is this dialogue? Who says this? LOL. I still LOVE
the Clones, even more then the first time. This will be my
DVD repeat Loop :) And Yoda was even more enjoyable. In the
end, I had more fun but still don't think I LOVED it. My friend
had same reaction I had on the first viewing. He thought even
the Ewoks were better then this. (please no nasty emails about
the ewoks ;)
I feel the dialogue for the love scenes would have been far
better with humour as in Empire with Han and Leia. Imagine
how much better it could have been if (hlite to read spoiler)
When Padme and Ani are entering the
Arena and as they entered Padme would say "I love you"
and Ani would say "Now you tell me" or something
like that. there was too many fancy words that no one says..."I'm
haunted by the kiss...it's like a scar, you torment my soul
blah blah blah" I don't buy it. Sorry.
Also when Anakin finds Shmi, it would
have been SO much more dramatic if he would have reached her,
then together they escape to the speederbike only to be surprised
by a Tusken who plunges his gaffi stick into Shmi causing
her to die violently in front of Ani. His rage towards the
dark side would have had so much more impact and feel more
sorry for him. Shmi's death is terrible. Her head plopping
back like the worst acting death of the week tv movies.
It isn't all bad :) Yoda fighting with his twirls and spins
really is the hit of the movie. I am SO glad I bought him
at the Celebration II :) And the Clone Troopers. Amazing design,
look awesome on film and kick butt :) I can't wait for Episode
3.
I will probably go see it maybe 1 or 2 more times. I wish
I could find some Movie Books with pictures for my diorama
references :) I will definately buy the DVD this October,
and will learn to like it more and more with each viewing
as I did Episode 1. However, It just seems the magic of summer
1977 still isn't there. Not Awfull but not amazing either.
