| As a fan of the original movie
I was not sure if I would like this film. When I saw the trailers,
I kept comparing to the original. It was easy to recognise
the kids characters and loved the new design but Johnny Depp's
look just freaked me out. He looks WEIRD, almost TOO much
like Michael Jackson's haircut and E.T. complexion - SCARRRRYYYY
- But tonight I was proved wrong... This movie is Wonderfull
!!!
Again Tim Burton works his magic, great casting, amazing
set design and true eye candy, forgive the pun :P on the screen.
My friend tells me that the author of the book HATED the
original movie (too much like a broadway musical) and that
Burton wanted to stay as close as possible to the books origin.
If anyone has read the book, I'd love to hear your take on
this, how close this version comes to the book as opposed
to the 60's version.
As for the movies, the biggest change from the original is
that the singing is only done by the Oompa Loompas in Tim
Burton's film. I just LOVE the Veruca Salt song, it is just
sooo good. The minute I got home I downloaded it and have
been listening to it in loop over 1 hour now LOL. Also added
is a back story of Willy's Father ... Count Dooku, uh, I mean
Mr. Wonka :P
The effects are very well done but the design creates some
weirdness to the characters eyes. Or was I just too tired
:P The best parts have to bee the Oompa Loompas. They were
played by indian actor Deep Roy and might remind you a little
of Rool and Meegosh in Willow. Their musical numbers will
remind parents of old tacky shows like Donny and Marie and
50's musicals. Aerial camera shots of Oompas forming flowers
in the chocolate river is too funny. Also my fave scene MUST
be Veruca's demise. Whatever you do... Don't touch the squirel's
nuts - LOL. I wish there was a rewind button in the theater
for this scene. BRILLIANT !!!
If there is one movie that makes you leave the theater with
a smile this summer, this is it. Definetely worth seeing in
the cinema, at least once, and even 2 or 3 times. Buying the
DVD for sure this christmas season. |
