I wasn't expecting to go see this in the theater. I thought
it would be more a DVD film. My friend Yan convinced me to
go see it with him after his meetings at Siggraph. I forget
the name of the theater we went to, it's across the street
from the Westin Bonaventure in Downtown LA, but boy, does
it make me happy to watch movies here in Montreal - LOL. The
cinema looked like it was 1972, with broken chairs and black
ducktape holding the curtains up against the screen and the
smell...let's just say it's a good thing NiubNiub's doesn't
come with an Odorama option, cause you would be logging off
just about now LOL.
Lucky for us the movie was very good and made us forget we
were in such a poopoo cinema. Well that and the chocolate
mints I stuck up my nose. I swear it's true !!! :) Tom Cruise
looked good even with grey hair, and it was fun seeing him
play a baddie for a change. Jamie Fox played well also., I
was only a little annoyed with Jada, i just can't stand her...I'm
sorry but she seems so prima donna. on those interview shows,
it has clouded my judgement everytime I see her.
So Cruise plays a bounty hunter who must assassinate 5 witnesses
who are to appear in court the next morning. Jamie Foxx is
the unlucky cab driver who is caught in the middle of having
to drive Tom to his hits if you will. A lot of great stunts
in this film, the only thing that really ticked me off was
the ending...why oh why must there ALWAYS be a perfect happy
man meets woman and get married in the sunset ending in all
hollywood films? Has anyone ever seen To Live and Die in LA?
Now THAT is how to end a movie !!! I wish they had done the
same here...Highlight to read...If Tom
would have killed Jada - thus completing his mission before
getting killed by Foxx, that would have been more satisfying
to me. You can't always get everything perfect in life. Seems
it would have been more dramatic also...more edge of your
seat...like...hurry she's gonna get killed, and - bang, just
inches from saving her and you say "oh poop, I can't
believe she got shot" would have been so much more cool
then just Cruise's character get shot and the 2 others walking
together in the sunset....that's my 2 cents worth :)
So even if the ending was a little dissapointment in the
cliche department, this is still a very excellent movie. Well
worth the ticket and for sure a good catch on DVD this winter.
