| Forget what you read on Aint
it cool news, This is by far NOT the big bantha poopoo that
Harry Knowles makes it out to be, I hope you won't let him
make you not want to go see this movie. And that's not just
because I did some of the special effects either...
Fantastic Four is NOT Batman, that film is more dark in tone
and geared to a different audience, but if you liked what
you see in the Trailers, I don't think you will be dissapointed.
The pacing of the movie is pretty good. The acting is surprisingly
better then I expected, Human Torch steals the movie. His
one liners and delivery from Chris Evans (man I wish I had
his body :) is RIGHT ON !!! And when he teases The Thing,
just very very funny. I can't wait to see more of their interaction
in the sequels. Fox has this planned as the first of a trilogy,
so chances are very good that a 2 and 3 will be made if this
doesn't flop at the box office - which I doubt it will. Certainly
MILES above last years Electra and Catwoman from what my friends
tell me. I have to trust their judgement on that because I
have yet to see those abominations. I don't think I have enough
Rolaids to sit through 2 minutes of Catwoman. Ughh.
I will admit I never did read any of the comics so I can't
compare and complain that Sue isn't old enough or Johnny is
blond etc...So if you are a DIE HARD comic fan of the series
you might dissagree with me. But as a superheroe film similar
in tone and style with Spiderman, X-Men, Daredevil and Hellboy...
It's Cloberin Time :)
The story starts off with our heroes, as well as Doom, going
out into outer space to find a cure for some illness and get
caught up in a cosmic cloud energy. I really loved the effects
in this sequence. Very cool even if brief. Similar a little
to the Nexus from Star trek, If you have seen the trailer
you know what I am talking about. Once on earth, they each
discover the powers that will change their lives forever.
Mr Fantastic is better then I thought, but maybe not as cool
as Elastigirl in the incredibles :P I'm sure we will see a
lot more cool transformations in F4 2. Invisible woman is
ok, it's not easy showing nothing. The Thing, even though
he is a rubber suit, you do forget it with the acting. I think
it was actually a wise decision to do this instead of CG like
half the world has been complaining about for the past year.
The clear winner remains Johnny. The Flame effects and flying
are just TOO COOL. I would pay to see a movie with just Evans
in it. Too funny. Now that the characters roots are established,
Fantastic Four 2 will start off with a bang right into the
action I'm sure.
For the curious, the work Meteor did is the entire 11 minute
brooklyn Bridge scene. When you first look at it you think
the only effects are Sue's Shield, Her turning invisible,
Car Explosions and a semi crashing into thing (I did the head
on collision - can you believe 3 months work for 1 second
onscreen - I will have it's Making Of soon in my Niub in the
Real World section) In reality ALL shots have effects, you
see it was filmed on a parking lot in British Columbia. Only
a small 100 foot section of the bridge was built. everything
else... Sky, Bridge extension, New York, Brooklyn, Water is
ALL 3D layers added to the composites. The actors are all
on Bluescreen with no backgrounds behind them.
The kids in the audience LOVED it as my friends. There are
"some" small weirdness at times - like ben's girlfriend
going out into the street to meet him at the public phone
wearing only her Frederics of Hollywood Camisol and $500 Silk
teddy - LOL - Who in the world would actually go out in PUBLIC
like this at 10 pm ? LOL but apart from that, F4 is WELL worth
the price, I know I will be going at leat another 2-3 times.
As much fun as War of the Worlds and sadly, better then Star
Wars. Yes, I know, the scandal :P and they even got the spelling
of my name correct in the credits :D now THAT is a feat in
itself LOL. Grab your Popcorn, Sit down and ENJOY THE RIDE
!!! it's a fun 90 minutes well worth the 10 bucks. Certainly
MORE then the DREADFULL 1994 DVD just released - AVOID THAT
ONE at ALL COSTS.
