Well I have my friend Nicolas to thank for dragging me into
seeing this film. I love horror movies, some of my all time
favourites are the Omen, Carrie and Poltergeist. is that horror
or Sci-Fi? :P I had NO clue as to what this was about but
I do know Sam Raimi's work. Who hasn't seen Spiderman :) perhaps
you've heard of Evil Dead and Dark man? Seems Sam thought
that the original Japanese film - Ju-On - was so good we needed
to remake it with Sarah Michelle geller of all people :P
OK, So the film starts off with a bang, well maybe a SPLAT
:P - then we follow Sarah into the home of an elderly woman
whose house looks like my apartment. Except where hers is
littered with garbage, I have too many toys lying around everywhere
LOL. This ghost of sorts haunts this woman preventing her
from speaking almost like if she is in a coma. I will admit
that the recurring sound that represents the "monster"
if you will is truly creepy. think of a frog croaking for
15 seconds played backwards. graawwwwwwkkkkkkkkkkkk - spooky
:)
At this point I started getting bored. I didn't like The
Ring too much and this is similar in style. Maybe it was the
row behind me of 8 teenage girls who thought they were in
their living room watching the movie and talking LOUD throught
the film that broke my concentration. What's wrong with people
in cinemas? On my left there was a guy on his cell phone doing
buisiness calls every 12 minutes. geez... Seems, this is becoming
a rant more then a review LOL.
There are no real likeable characters, we don't care who
dies or not and the effect are laughable if not simple. I
must say how I almost peed in my pants when the monster ghost
shows up at a womans apartment and she is so scared what does
she do? run out to get help. of course not...when you have
a monster murderer thingee after you in your apartment get
into bed and pull the cover over your head LOL For sure if
you can['t see the monster, it can't see you? :P LOL.
Stay away from this stinker. I kept joking to my friend that
Scooby Doo was gonna run around the corner any minute. zzzzz.
What a $12 wasted.
