RATING

WOW, wow, wow, what more can I say. For a film I really did NOT want to go see, I admit doing a total 180 and just fell in love with this movie. I must say that the 3D effect was the reason me and my friend Martin went to the Imax theater. At some times you do still see doubling and have to adjust the glasses for it to work properly but this happens far and few between. If anyone ever played with a ViewMaster, then you know how amazingly cool it is to look at clear 3D pictures. Now think of this times 100 minutes :) Simply amazing.

I was not surprised to see we were only 11 in the theater. All movies now die a quick death after the first 2-3 weeks. After playing catch up with my firend, the lights dimmed and the movie started. I was just blown away. Hats off to Sony Imageworks for their exceptional work. It is truly jaw dropping. I know how hard it is techniacally to achieve this realism and was just blown away. The hair, lighting, snowflakes, the wolves, the caribou, the ice lake, Santa's factory, where do I stop LOL. This is simply the most beautifull use of design and 3D I have seen in a long time. Some of it doesn't quite work, like th elittle girl. I'm sorry, but she looked more wooden/stiff then the main character or the Malcom in the middle little brother look alike :P or was it Jake Lloyd he looked like LOL depends on the angle I guess :P

The story itself surprised me also, it's actually good and touching at the end. Ok, so I am a sucker for sentimentality :) I could have done without some of the sappy songs, especially when the kids start to sing. Who would do that in real life? It looked SO much like "hey, lets make some MORE money, sing some songs and put out a cd" LOL. However, I did enjoy the score a LOT. Very remeniscent to Edward Scissorhands. The ending in the village reminds you a lot like a modern Wizard of Oz, filled with Elves instead of Munchkins. Gee, I feel like seeing it again as I'm typing LOL.

If you had the same outlook as I did - not interested, looks boring or corny - please reconsider. Especially if you have the Imax 3D cinema in your city. You will NOT be dissapointed. You will be surprised just how enjoyable this movie is. Even if Chirstmas season has come and gone.
