I had some time off today now that my meetings and such were
done. I thought I would catch M. Night's newest film even
though some friends back home told me it was really really
bad. I lWith that in mind I was going to wait for the DVD
but decided, what the heck, I loved Sixth Sense and Unbreakable,
let's go for it. I think I should have saved my money and
go to the beach instead. LOL.
What can I say about this movie except what a dissapointment.
I think it suffers the same in my mind as Signs did. I was
expecting one kind of movie and ended up watching something
completely different. Or is it because the movie reminded
me of how much I hated Little house on the prairie? :P Perhaps
if the secret of the "Village" was that they realised
they were actually in west hollywood it might have been more
fun :P
Watching the trailer, you are told that there are aliens,
or monsters of some kind that live in the forrest on the outskirts
of this tiny village and that they decide to start snacking
or such and take out the villagers, one at a time. I guess
a little bit like in Alien. ..Who will survive? what do these
monsters look like? why are they attacking the villagers?
well all you end up with is a love story where a blind girl
must venture off in the woods to save the love of her life.
I don't know...I was never really caught up in it and neither
was the audience. I hardly heard a scream or reaction from
the half filled theater.
Ron Howard's daughter is very good in this film as the blind
woman but casting joaquin so soon after signs made me think
of that character all the time. I'm just glad that M. Night's
cameo wasn't as long as it was in Signs. Hitchcock did it
best...just walk a dog across the street or hide on a corner
with the public. more of a "where's NiubNiub?" kind
of game with the audience :P Not long scenes because you wanted
to be an actor when you were 5. but thats another story :)
If you are a real fan of M. Niht you could rent the DVD when
it comes out but don't pay $13 to see this Bantha Poop. By
the middle of the film I had guessed what/who the monsters
are (boring) and the "surprise ending" was just
corny. if you want to know what it is highlight the text now....The
blind girl walks a path in the forest only to come to a fence.
Once she climbs, we see that it is not 1755 or whatever time
Little House on the prairie existed :P, but 2004. You see,
The village was built by a support group of 10 or so couples
who each had suffered a family loss due to violence in the
world and they wanted to escape the craziness of the present
and go back to live like they did in the olden days. So they
found a Park Safari type gaming preserve and went to live
inside that. As if the state troopers would never had noticed
smoke coming out from the chimeneys and such :P LOL....end
of spoiler. I would suggest you rewatch Sixth Sense instead
and save your $$$.
