When I read Don Post was making a lifesize R2-D2 I was sooo excited.
Until I saw the price $10,000 - Kaplonk! - Niubniub just fainted ;)

I know it seems hard to believe, but even I can't afford that price. That's why I decided to make my own.
Created entirely out of Cardboard, Masking Tape and Latex Paint.
I used the R2 telephone as a reference for measurements and scaled it up proportionally.

Amazing what a little paint can do isn't it :)
