Alien is the first chapter in one of the most popular and terrifying sagas in science fiction history. The nightmare begins when the crew of a spaceship investigate a transmission from a desolate planet, and discover a life form that is perfectly evolved to annihilate mankind. Sigourney Weaver stars as the iron-willed Ripley, who is destined to battle the galaxy's ultimate creature.

THE MOVIE THE MOVIE

One of the scariest movies I have ever seen. I suppose it could be classified as a horror film, but it is obviously much more in depth than some of today's horror flicks. Ever seen Urban Legends? *shudders* Anyways, there is a lot of character development in Alien, but it is not as nearly fast-paced as the films sequel. This doesn't hurt it though, as it never loses your attention. I'd tell you more, but its a lot more exciting if you just see it yourself :) Summer 1979. Souvlaki Pita and H.R.Giger. I remember meeting friends in line 3 hours before the movie (this is when you HAD to wait in line to get tickets, it brought an excitement and anticipation that we don't get anymore) Eating my first ever Pita Souvlaki and watching the earlier show's croud exiting the theater, all looking terrorised - LOL. We couldn't WAIT to get in. When I came out of the theater I was so excited, we wanted to go see it again right away :) and it introduced me, like others, into the world of H.R. Giger. Without his vision, this movie would never have become a classic. 22 years later, this movie STILL ROCKS. It's the best of the series and so beautifully scripted and filmed. Ridley Scott's approach to use Spielberg's method in Jaws, to NOT show the Alien, created so much suspence and edge of your seat tension, it made the climax of the movie 500% more intense. Needless to say it was my favourite film of 1979 and on my all time fave list as well. A MUST OWN, it's impossible to just want to watch it one time only :P
SPECIAL FEATURES SPECIAL FEATURES
The real high-light of the Alien DVD is the commentary from Ridley Scott. He puts a lot of insight into his film, and finally explains how well informed the cast was about the famous "dinner scene". There is also artwork and photo galleries, original storyboards, and theatrical trailers. Several deleted scenes are also included, including the scene where part of the crew begins to mutate into eggs. Unfortunately and why I have NO CLUE, the making of Alien is on a seperate dvd, That you had to order by mail. I think now it is even discontinued. Dumb move Fox!!! It is a really cool documentary not to be missed by any fan of the movie and should have been included from the start. But if you bought Alien outside the box set, you can still listen to a kick butt commentary by Ridley Scott who really brings you in depth anecdotes into the making of the movie. Another cool feature is the isolated Jerry Goldsmith Score. No need to buy the soundtrack :) And as Nils mentions, you can finally get to see the famous deleted scene where Ripley finds Dallas turning into a cocoon.
