THE MOVIE THE MOVIE

Aliens, the sequel to the 1979 picture Alien, is the best in the series. It has the most action, the best characters, and the most memorable scenes. Sigourney Weaver returns as Lt. Ellen Ripley, the only survivor from the first movie. She does a great job in this film. In fact, she received an Oscar nomination for best actress, the only actress ever nominated for an action film.

In this movie, Ripley and a group of colonial marines return to the planet where the alien was discovered to investigate the new colony set up. The two most memorable marines, Corporal Hicks (played by Michael Biehn), and Private Hudson (played by Bill Paxton) help make the movie even better.

This DVD is worth buying just for the movie itself. Highly recommended for sci-fi fans.

I remember seeing the trailer in a theater not even knowing they were making a sequel. I was so excited after that I did not even care about the movie I went to see :) Aliens played at the Imperial, the BEST theater in Montreal at the time. My friends and I had waited 3 1/2 hours in line to get tickets and see the show.

First thing I remember was HATING the look of the Aliens. "That's not the Alien from the first movie" I thought to myself looking at the head shape with it's Klingon style bumps. Soon after though, that feeling dissapeared and I really got imersed in the action. I remember at the end when Ripley saves Newt and take off on the Dropship, 1/3 of the audience started to get up and leave. BIG MISTAKE - LOL. There's still 20 minutes left :) The idea to give us 2 endings was brilliant. James Camron's idea of making a continuation of the story as an action adventure film as oposed to a copy rehash of the first was pure genius. As Nils mentioned, This even led to an Academy Award nomination for Sigourney Weaver. This movie holds up perfectly today and the special effects don't show any sign of age. Brilliant!

If you have never seen this movie, watch Alien first then Aliens. If you have seen it like I bet 90% of you did - then go out and buy this amazing dvd for your collection NOW>

SPECIAL FEATURES SPECIAL FEATURES
A bit lacking in this area. I was expecting more. It includes behind-the-scenes footage, an interview with James Cameron, a still photo section, and the usual theatrical trailers. I was really hoping for directors' commentary by Mr. Cameron. The behind the scenes footage is eight small clips of the crew building some aliens and shows off some of the miniature sets. Nice, but nothing spectacular. The photo gallery is quite interesting. Almost every photo is one I had previously not seen. It shows the cast and crew, sets, props, storyboards, and lots of other stuff.

Before DVD, there was Laserdisc and I was really into collecting those. The bad thing about them was that Box Set Special Editions like Aliens cost $150 US. This dvd has all of the material that was in the Laserdisc Box for only $30. Now that's a deal if I see one LOL. If you collected Laserdiscs then there isn't anything really new to see in the suplements, but for you first timers...you have to see the Alien Queen test made from Glad Garbage Bags. There are many cool behind the scenes tests of Alien designs and sets.

There isn't a making of documentary but still over 2 hours of material to skim through with your remote.
