Audiences and critics alike are raving about this larger-than-life rock'n 'roll favorite that Roger Ebert calls "one of the best movies of the year!" The guys of Stillwater have the sound, they have the look and Rolling Stone Magazine wants their story. For young reporter William Miller, it's the opportunity of a lifetime as he hits the road with his favorite band and discovers the price of fame, the value of family and the limits of friendship.

THE MOVIE THE MOVIE

Cameron Crowe the genius behind Fast Times at Ridgemnt High is at his best when he is telling a story straight from his heart and experience. That is what we have here.

Almost Famous tells the semi-autobiographical tale behind Crowe and his days as a 16 year old journalist for Rolling Stone magazine. The story is told through the eyes of William Miller, essentially Crowe in real life. The movie re-creates the era of 70's arena rock from the heyday of bands like Led Zeppelin and shows it all from drugs to groupies through the eyes of an impressionable young teen who is still trying to find his place in the world.

I did not see this movie in theaters and had no desire really until it got the nominations for the Oscars. Watching the DVD was my first experience with the film and I must say i was pleasently surprised. this is a very good movie. It makes you laugh and brings back great memories of your teenage years in the 70's through the use of it's soundtrack (If you are old enough like I am - heh heh - 37)

Cameron Crowes Fast Times at Ridgemont High was one of my favourite movies in high school and watching this biography of his life and how he got started in his carreer was very entertaining.

If you like to watch a movie from time to time that doesn't have special effects and is character and story driven, I highly recommend this movie. A must rental for sure.

SPECIAL FEATURES SPECIAL FEATURES
The sound is great in both Dolby 5.1 and DTS. Also a making of documentary and some reprints of old Crowe articles for Rolling Stone are included. DreamWorks has stated that in the future an extended Director's cut will be released with many extras. If that is not too far in the future you may want to wait.

The making of is typical cast interview promos churned by the studio to sell tickets but still has some interesting moments of Cameron Crowe recalling the events in making what is basically his life's story. The actual Rolling Stones articles that he wrote as a teenager are included (great move Dreamworks) and are cool to read.

There is also a video as if the band really exited but that is pretty lame.
