| Overall a big disappointment. I expect a lot from
Paul Verhoeven. I mean he gave us Robocop, Starship Troopers,
and Total Recall. Yet I must remember he also gave us Showgirls.
Hollowman is pretty lame. It starts out promising with a cool
modern take on the Invisible Man and Kevin Bacon is certainly
a good enough actor to carry this film. Then the movie just gives
up on any shred of originality and descends into the typical
run from the killer and spout bad one liners in life threatening
chases. I did see this in the theater and struggled to get through
it again on DVD. One thing I can say is the effects are great.
I was tempted to just jump right to all of the cool parts. If
you appreciate cutting edge CGI special effects then you should
see this otherwise don't bother. |

I don't know if it's because I work in the fx
biz that I loved this movie so much. My friends who do not, think
it sucks - LOL. Technically these are some of the best FX I have
ever seen and can't wait to get my hands into this quality type
work. I don't think the movie is bad. I might of come out of
the theater a little dissapointed because I expected so much.
that's why I don't give it 5 Niubniub's. Maybe it's because I
am a paul Verhoeven fan - well except for Showgirls - yuk. One
thing to point out though, This film is NOT for kids! I would
have nightmares if I saw this at 12 or 13. If you are old enough
to drive then you should watch it. but not before dinner LOL. |

| The commentary track with Verhoeven, Bacon and
screenwriter Andrew Marlowe is entertaining. Verhoeven is always
fun to listen to. Check out his commentary track on the Criterion
Robpcop sometime. There are also a few deleted scenes that The
Anatomy of a thriller is the typical fluff piece identical to
the HBO: First Look piece shown last Summer while the movie was
in theatres. Things get good on Fleshing out Hollow Man. A set
of 15 clips that show a behind the scenes look at the making
of special effects. The Gorilla sequence is phenomenal. |
|
The Making of is a typical boring press kit Poo
Poo that shows us nothing but vague rehearsed interviews with
the cast. Skip to Fleshing out Hollow Man. An amazing set of
15 clips that show true behind the scenes look at the making
of special effects. I even learned a few new tricks. this was
definetally one of the best suplements of the dvd. As a sneaky
surprise they even added the Final Fantasy trailer. COOL!!! |
