| On a remote island, a wealthy entrepreneur secretly creates a theme park featuring living dinosaurs drawn from prehistoric DNA. Before opening the attraction to the public, he invites a top paleontologist, a paleobotanist, a mathematician/theorist, and his two eager grandchildren to experience the park--and help calm anxious investors. However, their visit is anything but tranquil as the park's security system breaks down, the prehistoric creatures break out, and the excitement builds to surprising results. Based on Michael Crichton's best-selling novel. |

| THE MOVIE | THE MOVIE | |
| When I think of movies with cool special effects,
I think of two movies: Star Wars and Jurassic Park. I know the
visuals shown in JP are quite common nowadays, but in 1993 we
had never seen stuff like this! Living breathing dinosaurs interacting
with human beings?! It was just too cool not to see! NiubNiub's dream was my reality as I was only ten years old at the time, so I had no doubt about the validity of the creatures. I bought some of the toys (and made my mom buy me the rest), and I saw it a few more times in the theater. After it left the theaters, I was thinking only one thing: when is it coming out on video? Well I waited and eventually it did, which at the time felt like an eternity, I purchased it and relived all the great scenes over again. And guess what? I like this movie just as much as I did back then. Still not sure you'll like this movie? The T-Rex eats a lawyer. Nuff said. |
I had not read the book, so unlike many fans who
were dissapointed saying there is no plot to this movie, I still
enjoyed it tremendously. It was a giant leap in intergration
of 3D CGI animation with real life background plates. I secretly
wished I could be 10 again to believe these were real dinosaurs
instead of a special effect. That is the downside of working
in the business, when you know all the tricks you tend to analyse
the fx to see where the seams are instead of being imersed into
the movie. Not to say I didn't get into it, I saw it 4 times
at the theater. I even remember a poor little 4 year old boy
and his mother. She asked us if it was too scarry for him and
my friend and I said "YES!" Well after the T-Rex attack,
the TERRIFIED boy left screaming crying with his mother. I hope
his nightmares did not last for too long :) If you loved stop motion movies like Sinbad and King Kong You will love this movie. I am sure that 90% of you have already seen it and probably more then 1 time ;) XX |

| SPECIAL FEATURES | SPECIAL FEATURES | |
| Director's commentary should be a required part
of DVD's don't you think? Well Mr. Spielberg decided it wasn't
necessary for some reason, so the extra I wanted the most isn't
included on this disc. However, The Making Of Jurassic Park is much better than I had originally predicted, and is the best special feature on the disc. The trailers are nice, except for the one for JP3, which doesn't give us any clue as to what the specifics of the movie are. The other extras are nice, but nothing really stands out as being all that interesting. But then again, you could always just watch the movie itself. :) |
The Making of is a great TV special that shows
us some really cool behind the scenes stuff like the original
animatics and the ILM tests they made to sway Stephen Spielberg
into having Computer CGI Dinosaurs instead of Rubber puppets.
The interviews with the cast are interesting and our favourite
Jedi James Earl Jones hosts the special. If you want a peak at how a special effects movie is made, this is a very good introduction to the various steps of movie making. Excellent documentary. |
