| Bold and brash Foreign Legion soldier Rick O'Connell agrees to take a team of archaeologists to the legendary City of the Dead to search for the long-lost treasure of Egypt's wealthiest pharaoh. But when the visitors unearth the tomb of the notorious high priest Imhotep, they find themselves faced with a torrent of terrors and a spirit whose evil knows no bounds. As Imhotep grows stronger, he threatens to devastate the world. And the only people who can stop him are O'Connell and his friends, mere mortals who are suddenly fighting for their lives--and the world's future. |

When I saw this movie in the theater the first thing that came to mind was "What A indiana Jones Rip-Off". An hour later I was thinking "What A indiana Jones Rip-Off" LOL. I will admit that I hated this film when I left the theater though I was in awe of the amazing effects. When the DVD came out I bought it because of all of the amazing ILM making of sections, and since I work in fx, always a great learning tool to see what techniques are used for the different scenes. Then a funny thing happened as I was watching again, I started enjoying the film :) I have now seen it 6 times and like it more with every viewing. The acting is pretty cardboard but this is an action summer flick right? The effects scenes do deliver and are very entertaining. Especially when the Sandstorm tries to eat the plane. A similar effect with water is in the sequal but not as effective in my opinion. If you like special effects and enjoyed Indiana Jones type stories (though certainly not as classic a film as raiders) you should get a kick out of The Mummy. XXX |

WOW! what can I say. As you all know by now, many of the DVD's I purchase are for the suplements that I watch to further my knowledge of special effects techniques. I was so happy to watch making of scenes that actually showed you how it's really done. Not the lame studio made for tv sales pitch you find on many DVD's. The footage that ILM shows us of all the techniques, ranging from tracking, mattes, cgi, miniatures and compositing really gives us, the viewer, an appreciation for all the laborious work that is involved in creating an effects scene. For once, a making of that is fun for eryone including people who work in the industry. Excellent. For me, These supplements alone were worth the price of purchase. |
