Here is a close up of the connected joint. Repeat
the same process on the other side. You will then
have a tight enough connection to free your hands
from having to hold the pieces together.
Now Take your Hot Glue Gun and apply it all over
the Connecting Joints (Red Arrows) |
|
 |
Continue Gluing
from One end to the Other. Make sure the Glue has hardened
before connecting Another Layer to your Wall.
Simply repeat the same steps...Stack a Beam or 3 Tier
Unit, Mark Supports, Cut U Shape, Mesure Scrap Foamcore,
Cut 2 U Shapes, Connect the Grooves and Hot Glue Together.
This should keep you busy for a couple of HOURS :D |
 |

Total time to complete ONE Wall Unit: 6 Hours.
The Red Arrows point to the Connecting Pieces and
are a reminder to NOT forget Hot Gluing them Together.
The Scrap Connections work well but need more reinforcement
due to the weight of such an enormous structure. |

TA da...I present to you the finished Assembly (Without
the Decals of course) of One Side of the death Star
2 Docking Bay.
In my design I chose 4 Beams with a Half Tier Wall
on the Right. This is because when I place my Mirror,
the half will reflect into a Full 3 tier and prolong
the 4 Beams into 8 giving the illusion of a Gigantic
Movie Accurate Docking Bay :) |
|
 |
Did you catch
the lonely Stormtrooper at the bottom of the picture? :)
This shows you the scale of this Monster Diorama.
Of course Many of you might not have the space for such
a display (As is my case also - I will be placing this creation
in the Window Display at Legends Montreal Store) but you
can still create the same effect but at a height that fits
better on a shelf system. that's the beauty of this design
:D
You calso create more then 4 Beams if you wish. I just
warn you that you might go insane if you attempt such a
feat - LOL.

Here is a closer look at the Stormtrooper at a level
we are more used to seeing in the Movie.
Once the Decals and the Black Glossy Floor are in
place it should look pretty impressive. |

Here is a TEST I did with a small Mirror I had in
the bathroom. I have to Custom Order the final one
when I have all exact Dimensions of the Room.
The Green arrow points to where the Mirror is placed
against the Half Tiered Wall. See how the 4 Beams
are reflected into 8?
|
|
 |
I am starting
to get all excited - Hee hee. Anyone care to bet this Diorama
will all be our All Time Fave when complete? :) |
 |
|
April 27, 2003
So here you have it - NO Photoshop tricks. My 2 fully
assembled Wall Units.
I would think the space between them will be close
to the actual dimensions of the finished Bay.
I have to go measure the Window Display at Legends
to make the final calculations. |

I had some time left over so I thought I would start
on the Back Walls.
These Sections are placed on each side of the Giant
Neon entrance. I cut myself a 39.5 X 14 inches piece
of Foamcore for the Main Rear Wall Corner.
I placed a 3 Tier Wall Unit on top and marked with
a pencil where the |
|
 |
Toilet Paper Rolls touched the wall. I then cut out 2 small
slits to allow those Toilet paper Rolls to stick out to
the back so that the 3 Tier Wall could lay Flush against
the board. Are you all confused yet? LOL.
|
 |
|
April 27, 2003
Here you can see how the 3 Tier Wall fits perfectly
against the piece of Foamcore.
I left a 1cm gap from the edge for esthetics as
well as convinience for the Hot Glue later on. |
|
 |
 |
|
April 27, 2003
Here you see exactly what I was talking about and
why the slits are needed for the 3 Tier Wall to fit
perfectly against the Rear Wall Foamcore. |
|
 |
 |
|
April 27, 2003
Flipping the Wall upside down, you can see the Toilet
Paper Rolls sticking out.
This will allow the Decals to flow perfectly and
give us a perfect fit later on. |
|
 |
 |
April 27, 2003
Now I cut out 4 pieces that will fill the Corner
Gaps. I will give you the dimension for these in the
Blueprints later on. They are basically the same as
the Supports but with a flat bottom. |
|
 |
 |
April 27, 2003
Use your Hot Glue Gun and apply the Glue to the Top
of your triangle.
Flip it upside down and press it against the inside
edge of the 3 Tier Wall.
Hard to see in the picture, but it's not pressed
exactly against the Grey Cardboard side. There is
a small .5cm Gap and make sure to allign it with the
Foot. |
|
 |
 |
April 27, 2003
When the piece is secured, do the same for all 4
corners. Then you can flip your 3 Tier Wall right
side up, and Glue the triangle Base to the Foamcore
Wall.
Do ONE Corner at a time to make sure you don't end
up with a big mess. Hot Glue is hard to clean off
Foamcore. Trust me, I learned the hard way :) |
|
 |
 |
April 27, 2003
The Rear Corner Wall fits right against the 3 tier
Wall Section.
Once it's painted Grey and add some details, I will
attach it to the wall with my Hot Glue Gun. |

With a little Photoshop help...We can see what the
finished Diorama will probably look like.
A little starfield and the proper decals will make
all the difference. Just wait and see :D |
