Let's start to make the REAL floor. Since I want
to have the Elevator Shaft, I must create a raised
floor just like on the movie set.
Use this part of the Making Of Guide as a reference.
Use the measurements that fit on your shelf.

Since my Docking
Bay is for Legend's Store Window Display, I cut out 3 panels
that fit perfectly in their window.
I used Black foamcore, though once covered in Glossy MakTak,
it doesn't really matter :) |

Now that the Table Tops were cut, I needed to cut
the Supports. I figured 6 Inches deep would be just
the right height.
You will need 2 Long pieces for the sides and 3 for
the Width. Of course if your floor is smaller, only
2 Widths could suffice.
|
|
 |
You just want
to make sure the floor is well suported and won't collapse
once the Shuttle and Figures are in place. |
 |
|
May 17, 2003
First step in making your floor...Hot Glue the 2
Width Panels to the Side panels.
I placed my Width Panels at a slight offset so to
add a little more strength to the base. |

As you can see the Base fits just right onto the
bottom of our Floor.
Simply use your Hot Glue Gun to attach the Frame
to the Floor Sheet. And BE CAREFULL !!! Hot Glue Guns
CAN be VERY Dangerous. I burned myself AGAIN when
some excess dripped onto my finger. NOT FUN. |
|
 |
 |

Now take that 3rd Width panel and Hot Glue it to
the center of the frame.
Now your floor is complete and I would say pretty
sturdy. |

See how nice it looks from the proper side? Now all
you have to do is copy the steps until you have all
the Floor Sections you need for your own Diorama. |
|

And here are all my Box Floor Sections stacked up
on top of each other. And it only took about...mmm...4
hours - LOL.
The Width of my Death Star Wall is 2 Floor Sections.
Before I attach the Huge Wall to the Floor, I want
to assemble a complete section. |
|
 |
 |
|
May 17, 2003
Let's start with 2 identical Floor Panels.
I flipped them upside down and gathered up some
scrap pieces of Foamcore. |
|
 |
 |
|
May 17, 2003
After placing the 2 pieces side by side and precisely
aligning them,
Take your scrap Foamcore and place A LOT of Hot Glue
on the surface and press against the joint. |
|
 |
 |
|

Once the glue hardens, the assembled Floor Base will
be impossible to seperate BUT will still be VERY fragile.
The green arrows point to where you should be looking
:). |
|
 |
 |

Now what we need to do is strengthen the sides and
prevent the 2 pieces from folding in half like an
accordion. That would be bad. Hee hee.
Take some Scrap Foamcore and cut out little 1 inch
by 3 inch strips (Follow the Green Arrows)
|
|
 |
Use the Hot
Glue Gun to attach them to the Floor Bottom. |
 |
May 17, 2003
Make sure they are pressed up against the Walls of
the Support bases. |
|
 |
 |
May 17, 2003
Now take a Long piece of Foamcore that stretches
accross to both Support bases.
Hot Glue the piece to the Walls as well as the Spine
touching the little 3 inch Scrap pieces.
Your Floor is now complete. Well almost... :) |

In order to make the Sections fit Just Perfect, I
thought I would use an Interlocking technique. Much
like when you put your hands together in a "prayer"
manner.
Each finger interlocks with the other to form a tight
bond. This will prevent an uneven floor when all the
Bases are placed side by side. |
|
 |
 |

Take 2 of your little Foamcore Rectangles and attach
them to the Floor Bottom using your Hot Glue Gun.
Make sure that the space between the 2 is Exactly
the Size of your Rectangles. |
