I put some Green Text to try and help you understand
better what I am doing.
Circle A is the Floor Base "A". The 2 "A"
Rectangles are Hot Glued to this Floor Base. Circle
B is the Floor Base "B". The "B"
Rectangle is attached to this Base and is alligned
to fit perfectly with Rectangles "A" |

To connect the 2 Floor Bases together, Simply tilt
one floor at an angle so that the Rectangles inter
lock.
This is done much easier when the floor is facing
upwards. I have it upside down so you can see what
I am talking about :) |

Slowly lower the 2 pieces and slowly press the 2
Bases towards each other.
A PERFECT fit. |

Now when your Floor Bases are all connected it will
look like one giant even piece with no bumps or gaps.
Plus it will help your Imperial Forces not to tip
over so easily :D |

Ok, I got some sleep and ready to attack the Docking
bay Elevator Shaft :)
Using the matte painting from the Art of Return of
the Jedi Book, I looked at the Shuttle's proportions
and came up with an opening that I think resembles
the Movie's proportions.
The Outer Square
is 11.5 Inches X 15 Inches. That is the Pencil Line that
goes all the way around the cut opening. The cut is .5 Inches
on the Inside of the Squre Measurement.
DO NOT throw out the Center Piece, You WILL need it later
on. |
May 18, 2003
First step is to raise the Opening 6 Inches off the
ground.
Like the Main Bases before it, I used my Hot Glue
Gun to attach the 4 Support Panels to the Floor Underside. |
May 18, 2003
Now the Elevator has 45 Degree Angles in the corners.
I
cut 4 pieces 6 Inches Deep by 2.25 Inches Wide. |
May 18, 2003
Since the pieces fit in a corner we need to slice
off the edges at a 45 Degree Angle. Take your Xacto
Knife and place a NEW Sharp Blade into the Handle.
Carefully slide the Blade down the corner trying
to be as close to the Front Edge as possible and keeping
a straight line. |
May 18, 2003
This is what your piece should now look like. Do
the same on the remaining 3 pieces. |
May 18, 2003
Here you can see how the Angle Cuts make the piece
fit just perfectly against the side walls. |
May 18, 2003
Put some Hot Glue against the edges and slide into
place making sure the are no gaps in the connections.
If it sticks out even just a little, it will show
up BIG TIME when the Decals are put in place. And
we don't want wrinkly Decals right? :) |

Here is the Underside of the Elevator Shaft. You
can see the 4 Corner pieces have been Hot glued into
place.
Now there is only One little step to do before we
are done... |
May 18, 2003
Add some extra supports to make sure the floor stays
level and prevents the Foamcore to warp out of shape
with the weight of your toys.
No precise measurements. Just use whatever Scrap
pieces you have left over. No use in cutting up a
NEW Foamcore sheet since no one will see it anyhow. |

May 18, 2003
And our finished Elevator Shaft Construction.
Well before the Interlocking Rectangles are attached
:P |
May 18, 2003
Ahhh, looking Good :D But wait...
A Death Star floor has the perfect Shine to it, not
this ugly dull looking Foamcore :P |
