Oh no!!! MORE pillows :( - LOL.

At least there aren't as many as the tiny ones on the arches.

I traced the patterns on papaer and then cut the shapes in Super Sculpey and smoothed out the edges to give a round puffy look to the shapes.

The 3rd and 7th pillows have holes in them. you will see why below.

Again, latex base coat goes on first using a regular paint brush.

Weathering with the sea spomge adds texture and a nicer look.

Now let's move on the the holes.

If you look at the arrow in the picture, it's pointing at the lights of the ship. I noticed that the caps on my colored markers were the same shape as in the movie set.

So by cutting off the tip at 1 cm, I can fit them perfectly in the center of each hole.

I painted the caps after cutting them thinking I would save time, but the next step scratches the paint.

So you can skip this and paint it only 1 time once the pillow is done.

All the caps in place, all that is left to do is to fill in the gaps with Super Sculpey to hold them in place.

October 08, 2001

After The holes are filled, I used my carving tool to make a groove around the square just like in the reference picture.

You will also notice the cool thing about these caps...See the dark slits on the top?

October 08, 2001

You can shine a light through them :) Cool eh? - a real luck for me :)

I will put black paint on the backside of each pillow to prevent the light from coming through anywhere but the slits.

Looking at the pictures, some pillows are missing and expose holes in the walls to access cables and pipes.

These details will add a lot of realism and accuracy to the diorama.

After carefull measuring, I cut out holes in the tubes coresponding to the correct missing pillows.

October 08, 2001

Here are the holes on the left side of the tube.

October 08, 2001

Now that my pillows are all ready, I cut 1/2 inch strips of foamcore and used the Car Paint to render them the same color as the tube.

October 08, 2001

Using the trusty Glue Gun, Stick 1 layer along the inside seams and then glue the 2nd layer on top of the first.

Make sure to press hard against the tube so not to leave gaps between the 2 strip layers.

October 08, 2001

Now it's looking familiar :)

Use the Glue Gun to stick the pillows to the strips. Seperate each pillow by about 1/4 cm.

Start at each side and merge towards the top. This way it's easier to fill the gap evenly instead of having not enough space for your pillow at the base.

Details, Details - LOL.

Using some old TV Cable wire, I cut 10 inch pices that will fit on the sides of the pillow arches.

Better to have a little longer and snip excess when attaching to the arch.

Here you see where the wires fit. The white arrows are pointing at them.

No need to glue all the way around, once at each sides base will suffice.
