Next I bought some regular cotton balls at the drugstore.

Place pieces of cotton into the box between the wires...

...then using a pen or stick, poke the cotton behind the wires.

This will become the insulation that was placed on the real movie set.

November 18, 2001

Now I want to give the same texture as the insulation in the film so i took some tan latex paint and added water at a 5:1 ratio.

This way the paint is very watery, more like dye.

Use a brush and wet the cotton. The cotton will absorb the paint and get mooshy. When dried, it will look just like in the movie :)

Then I wan't to hide the foamcore edges of the main corridor.

Using my trusty Hot Glue Gun, I put some glue along the cut edges and covered the glue with pieces of cotton.

November 18, 2001

Then I wet the cotton with the same watered down paint mixture as I used on the boxes.

November 18, 2001

For the inside, it's good to let some pieces of the cotton to poke through. It gives us more the look of insulation and makes us forget it is made of cotton balls.

November 18, 2001

When I was placing the boxes to the corridor I noticed that you could see some of the edges of the box, so I decided to take a bit more time and cover every edge with cotton also.

November 18, 2001

Paint all the exposed cotton and let dry completely before attaching to the diorama.

November 18, 2001

The cotton is dry and now we can use the hot Glue Gun to bond the boxes to the corridor.

This is what the finished boxes look like in their proper resting place.

Here is the back view of the hallway showing us the other boxes.

I noticed once in place that the pipes are maybe a bit too far back. But that's ok, it still gives us the same effect and completes the main corridors. Well, if you don't count the lights that we still haven't placed yet :) LOL

December 16, 2001

Finally after almost 1 month I am finally able to work on my diorama again. Did I ever tell you that work and dioramas don't go well together - LOL.

There are TWO walls left to make before the room can be accessorised.

This is the wall behind Han Solo's Control Panel.

I cut 2 pieces of foamcore and glued them together at the same angle as the supports.

December 16, 2001

Here is a new support I cut out of foamcore to help keep the roof up but also to keep the wall from colapsing :)

I made it 2 foamcore thickneses for extra strength.

December 16, 2001

Here you can better see the proper angle of the wall and how the support beam helps keep everything in place.

You can notice that the beam doesn't reach the top. Don't worry because the ceiling beam will rest on top of it.

Next I want to cut out some holes to make box details like on the main walls on each side of the circular hallway entrance. The ones with the wires inside them.
