Now slowly cut the bottom of the chair back.
Don't press too hard or you will deform the shape.
Take your time. Go deep enough to reach the first
cut. |

Once you are done you should have 2 shapes.
On the left, the angle cut chair back and on the
right, a leftover you can recycle for later. |
September 15, 2002
Here you can see how the angle cut rests against
the bottom of the U shape, becoming flush with the
floor.
The entire back end should stick out about .5cm from
top to bottom. |
September 15, 2002
Here you can see where the front angle cut fits perfectly
with the U shape base. |

Now all that is left to do is to use small pieces
of Super Sculpey to fill in the gaping holes.
This will make the chair look nicer but also secure
it from falling apart and drooping towards the front.
Now take your heater and harden it up for about
2 minutes. |
September 15, 2002
Now that the gaps hasve been filled in the front
and our back has hardened enough to manipulate it
without deformations, it's time to fill in the gaps
on the backside. |
September 15, 2002
Now that looks much better don't you think? :)
You can use this time to heat up the Super Sculpey
once again. It's always good to heat up and somewhat
harden after each modification.
This way you
know that the heat from your fingers wont smudge all the
hard work you put into smoothing out the Super Sculpey. |
September 15, 2002
Now that the basic chair is done, it's time for detailing.
Flatten a thin sheet of Super Sculpey. Maybe 1/4cm
thick. but not too thin, we want to see the embossed
look.
Cut out a shape that is just slightly smaller in
width to the chair back. |
September 15, 2002
Place the thin piece onto the chair back.
Use your tools to blend the 2 pieces together. Once
you are happy with the smoothness, Harden your Super
Sculpy another 2 minutes. |
September 15, 2002
Now the armrests need detail also.
Roll out a piece of Super Sculpey .5cm thick and
cut out 2 identical rectangles measuring 2cm X 3cm. |
September 15, 2002
Place the first rectangle aligned with the bottom
rear of the chair's armrest.
Use your tools to blend the 2 pieces together. Try
to get it as flat and smooth as possible. |
September 15, 2002
Here you can better see exactly where the piece must
fit. |
September 15, 2002
And finally a picture of the smoothed out rectangle
to the back of the chair.
Now is a good time to heat and harden before moving
on to repeat the process on the other side. |
September 15, 2002
Now for the front pillow details.
Roll out 1/4cm thick sheet of Super Sculpey. Just
like you did for the back of the chair.
The bottom piece is the height of the armrests. The
top pieces are the shape of the curve but a bit smaller. |
September 15, 2002
I think you can better understand my desciption looking
at this picture.
Now all you need to do is use your tools to blend
the pieces together to give an embossed pillow look. |
