As we did with the main front panel, Wrap the lower
support inside along the main panel. Hot glue in place
and make sure the strip is flush with both ends. Now
repeat the same procedure on the other side with the
second strip. |

There we have it. Palpatine's desk. But wait...This
is too easy - LOL. Looking at the references, there
are routered grooves in the surface. I was going to
do a photoshop decal but then thought, let's try it
with cardboard instead :) |

I took a piece of cardboard and flipped the desk
upside down. I then traced the countour with a pencil.
You can use scrap cardboard since it will be painted. |

We now have a duplicate of the desk countertop. |

Of course you know this is just the beginning ;p
As you can see the pieces stick out a bit which is
ok for the moment. We will be triming them after the
cuts. |

This is the desk pattern. At least what I can make
out of the reference pics. When the DVD comes out
i will probably realise I was all wrong - LOL. But
it is very close and looks cool :) Once the cuts are
made, trim a hairline around each side so that when
put back together there will be gaps. |

And here are the gaps I was talking about :) When
the light hits the desk it gives off a really cool
look. DO NOT use Hot Glue to attach these pieces.
You want the pieces to be really flat against the
desktop. Hot Glue raises the thickness because it
hardens too fast. I used some double sided tape. |

Tada....the finished desk being admired by it's rightfull
owner :) He doesn't look too happy though....Oh yeah,
I guess I should paint it - LOL. There are 2 shades
of grey, same as the wall columns. The bottom suport
panels (that touch the floor) are light grey as is
the desk surface. The rest is all dark grey including
the grooves in between the table top "puzzle"
pieces. |

Ahhhh, MUCH better. See how palpatine loves feeling
the smooth surface of his powerful desk. :) There
IS one last element of detail to really complete the
desk. There is a center oval display panel as well
as some desk paperweights. I will make those in sculpey
later next week. Not bad for foamcore furniture don't
you think? :) |
