First step is always the most fun because it releases
all your anger - LOL.
Seriously, be very carefull when you cut your figure
up with an Xacto, you don't want your finger to end
up next to Palpatine's Arm :D
In order to
make him sit properly in his chair, I cut him at the waist
and removed his long sleeves. Save the boots for later,
will save you some sculting time. |

Here is our sitting Palpatine. Wasn't that easy?
:)
You can see here why I had to remove the sleeves
so that his hands could rest properly on the Armrests. |
December 08, 2002
Let's get started... I rolled a snake out of Super
Sculpy and made a U shape. I then pressed Palpatine
into the end of the Sculpy so that he would be secure
in place.
You can now use your hair dryer to harden your Super
Sculpey. Once hard, you can use your Hot Glue gun
(Palpatine seems scared of those words... |
Nooo nooo stay
away - LOL) to connect the torso and legs. Now you know
they won't be falling apart any time soon. |
December 08, 2002
Take your roller and make a flat "Pie Crust"
out of some Super Sculpey. |
December 08, 2002
Now cut out a square shape. If it's too big when
placed on the figure you can always trim later. |
December 08, 2002
Place the square piece onto Palpatines body like
a big blanket and fold along the knees.
Also wrap around the body along both sides of the
torso. |
December 08, 2002
Now this step might take about 30 minutes.
Use your Sculpey tools to blend the blanket to the
body. Also add folds to the shape and the fancy lines
going down the center of his inner robe.
When you are happy with the results it's time to
take your hair dryer and heat the Super Sculpey |
untill it has
hardened. About 1 minute should do it since the Sculpy is
thin.
December 08, 2002
Now take some of the "Pie Crust" excess
pieces and cut long 1 cm strips.
This will be your new sleeves. Don't worry about
the length for now, we will cut that once on palpatine's
Arm. |
December 08, 2002
So take your strip and wrap it around Palpatine's
Arm like you see in the picture.
Then cut the piece aproximately at the bottom of
the chair. |
December 08, 2002
Now use your Sculpey Tools to add some folds and
blend into the top portion of the arm.
Don't worry if it looks ugly, when you repaint the
arm it will look like one piece. Just make sure to
smooth blend at the shoulder.
When you are happy, Harden the Super Sculpy with
your hair dryer. |
And be VERY
carefull, this piece is FRAGILE.
I learned the hard way and broke it off by mistake and
had to resculpt another. You DON'T want to do that, Trust
me :) |
December 08, 2002
Now repeat the same technique for the other arm.
When you are happy, harden that sleeve and your Sitting
Palpatine should now be complete.
All that is left is to paint... |
December 08, 2002
Tada... What do you think? Pretty cool no? :D
I used my trusty acrylic latex paints (There are
so many colors to chose from, bring your figure to
the Art / Paint store to get the exact colors you
need.) and painted over the Sculpey and arm pieces
so that they would blend.
Use the cut
sleeves as reference for the gold and green paint paterns. |
December 08, 2002
And here he is sitting behind his desk.
Now all we need to do is call the moving company
and send the furniture to Coruscant ;P |
December 23, 2002
2 weeks later :) Palpatine is happy to be home.
Total time was about 4 - 5 hours but really looks
nice.
Maybe one day Hasbro will make sitting figures for
us Diorama makers.
I know, 5 year
olds can't play with it but it sure makes a great display
for us young at heart adults :D |
