First step is always a sketch idea of what you want to make.

Looking at Stills from the Episode 2 Trailers, I was able to make out the shape of the movie set.

June 16, 2002

I started by finding the center of the sheet. Since I don't know the size the room is supposed to be, it's a good place to start :)

June 16, 2002

The entire room is basically a giant circle.

I needed a guide to draw the various levels. Just take a scrap piece of foamcore or cardboard and stick a tack through one end. This will be your center. Then punch holes at the proper dimensions.
(I will have exact numbers for you when I finish the Blueprints)

Then you push the tack into the center of the foamcore and stick the pencil in the hole and rotate. Just like playing with Spirograph when you were a kid :)

When you are done you get perfect circles like this. All perfectly centered with each other.

It's hard to believe, but this finished template took me 6 hours to make. It was very difficult to figure out the proportions and angles of the stairs and location of the main entrance.

June 16, 2002

Here you can get an idea of the scale of the room. The Jedi chairs are from the Council of course, new ones will have to be made as well as a modified Emperor's Chair.

At the top you can see the height reference and where the entrance to the room is located.

It all looks boring now but once the different levels and stairs are built it will look very interesting. Now I can use this template to make your blueprints.

Let's Start for real :)

Take a piece of cardboard (or foamcore) and stick a thumbtack on one end. This is your center axis.

Now measure 16 inches and poke a hole for your pencil. Your guide is ready.

Now take a sheet of Foamcore and divide it in half. From that line, go to the edge of the sheet and measure 11 inches. This is your center. Stick your thumbtack here and rotate your guide.

Carefully cut the foamcore with your Xacto knife. ALWAYS be carefull when cutting, I almost sliced my little finger off during this cut.

This is our floor base.

The flat line is where the entrance is and will be a seperate tiny structure that we will attach much later.

Now we are making the top level of the room.

On your guide, make new marks (remember your thumbtack is zero) at 11.25 inches, 2 inches and 1.5 inches.

Take a new sheet of foamcore, and again, draw a line down the center of the sheet and from the edge, measure 11 inches.

Stick your thumbtack in this center position and rotate with your pencil in each of the 4 guide holes.

This is what you should have (minus the stair lines) when done.

I drew over the lines in photoshop to better show you the pattern.

For the stairs I used an angle ruler (I'm not quite sure the official term) It's a round piece of plastic with markings along the edges going around 360 degrees.

From the center, I drew a line at 55, 65, 75 and 85 degrees. With a ruler, connect the angle with the center and you have your stairs. Mirror the same angles for the other side.

June 24, 2002

Here you can better see the center mark made by the thumbtack as well as the 1.5 and 2 inch circles.

The line going top to bottom is the half sheet of foamcore mark. I used a T-Square to draw a perfect horizontal line through the center of the circle.

From this, I got my angles and drew my stair markings. If you don't have an angle ruler, that's ok. Pretend the circle is a clock and draw lines between 10 and 11 o'clock.

June 24, 2002

Carefully cut out along the lines.

Don't throw any scraps away just yet. You will need them as guide templates for your stair shapes.

It's hard to see in this photo but the center rings are cut to the top of the stairs.

You can better understand this in the picture below.

OK, so this is the shape of your upper level platform.

Now, lets use those leftovers :)

June 24, 2002

Here is the center part.

We dont need for the upper level. However we do need the ring for the lower level's Hologram Pad Base.

Carefully cut along the 1.5 and 2 inch lines.
