Now measure a rectangle 4 cm X 2 cm and cut it in
half using opposite ends as your guide. |

Once you place the Hologram podium in place between
the stairs, Hot Glue Gun the 2 above pieces to each
side of the cone.
The top of the triangle should be flush with the
upper level floor. |

The finished Hologram Podium looks like this. Now
we can start the Window and walls. |
June 30, 2002
Cut 3 pieces of foamcore. All are 7.5 inches in height.
The window piece is 36.5 inches long. The 2 outer
wall pieces are 19.25 inches long. |

Make another circle 5 cm from the thumbtack use your
Xacto Blade to cut along the lines. |
June 30, 2002
From the left top and bottom edge, measure 7 cm.
Connect the dots and draw a verticle line. Do the
same on the other end of the foamcore. These are your
window's edges.
At the bottom, measure 3 cm at both ends, connect
the dots and draw a horizontal line.
At the top,
measure 6 cm at both ends. Connect the dots and draw another
horizontal line. You now have your window guides.
Now take your circle shape and align it with the left edge
and the top and bottom guides. Draw around the circle but
ONLY on the Left side.
You will draw on the Right side for the opposite side. |
June 30, 2002
Using the lines you traced, slowly cut along them
with your Xacto Blade making sure to not snag the
circular ends.
Use a new blade for the circles. It will make a big
difference your cut. |
June 30, 2002
The window must bend around the room, Use the Xacto
Blade to cut through ONE side at 1 cm intervals.
Make sure to not press hard on the blade, you DO
NOT want to cut the piece in half.
Now adding grooves to the window will make it a LOT
more supple and FRAGILE. We need to make a spine. |
June 30, 2002
Measure 16.25 inches and 18.5 from your pushpin.
Stick the pushpin in the center of a new piece of
foamcore and use a pencil to create your circle guides.
I used phoitoshop to hilite the pencil marks with
red because we could not see them in the photo.
Your lines will be a lot more precise :) |
June 30, 2002
To find out the proper length of your spine, place
the diorama floor on top of the sheet you just traced
your circles on.
Place a mark aligned with the 2nd stair from the
top. Repeat the mark on the other side as well.
These measurements will match exactly the length
of the window. |
June 30, 2002
Once your spine piece is cut, it will look like this.
Use it to trace a duplicate copy for the second ledge.
You will also need to make 2 more of these for the
regular walls.
Trace this shape as a template and then measure
from the 2nd stair to the front edge of the diorama's
floor, just past the front steps. |
June 30, 2002
Your spine will fit around the outer base but with
a gap. Did you take a wrong measurement? |
June 30, 2002
Not at all...the extra gap is to allow the window
to fit in between the spine and the diorama base. |
June 30, 2002
Carefully apply some Hot Glue along the first 6 inches
or so of the spine and press it along the window ledge.
Take your time!!!
You want to be as flush as possible with the window
frame.
Wipe off excess glue with a scrap of foamcore. Keep
applying Hot Glue until you have reached all around
the window. |
June 30, 2002
The first ledge is now in place. not only does it
give you the proper thickness of the window sill but
it acts as a great support to the Window wall. But
the top is still flopping about. |
