This bottom layer sticks out just beyond the supports.

July 14, 2002

Now to prepare for layer 2.

I cut some 1 cm strips and scored them so they would bend.

July 14, 2002

Using the Hot Glue, I attached the strips in the ceter of the lower layer piece.

July 14, 2002

I then added a small piece to the outer edges for the middle layer to attach itself to.

Let's create our ceiling tile template.

Measue a circle 41 cm and 27 cm. Draw a line from the center point and measure 10 degrees from each side of the line.

Use your ruler to draw the outer edges from the center point.

Make 13 of these. Now Use Hot Glue and attach it to the layer 1 ring. Align it to the outer edge and use dabs of glue on the center edge and anchor point.

July 14, 2002

Here you can better see the anchor point.

This keeps the piece in place but also gives us the desired angle for the middle layer of the ceiling.

July 14, 2002

After each piece cools down, attach another to the first one, going around in circles till you reach the front end of the layer 1 ring.

Well I wanted to finish, but it's midnight and I have to update these for you all :)

Here is where I am at as of yesterday evening.

A view from the inside.

This diorama will really come to life when the color is applied. But that is still a ways to go :)

July 28, 2002

Let's get back to the roof's construction.

We need a rectangle piece 59 cm X 14 cm. This is for the front of the 2nd layer part.

July 28, 2002

Align the rectangle with the roof's front base (the flat end) and against a temporary tile (The piece under my index finger is not yet attached, I am just holding it in place)

July 28, 2002

Place a mark where the 2 pieces meet.

This will be your angle cutting line. Do the same on the other end of the rectangle. And then mark the bottom where the flat layer 1 ring ends.

Basically the corners of the circular shape.

July 28, 2002

Use your Xacto blade and cut the ends off.

This will assure a good fit at the proper angle.

July 28, 2002

I then used my Hot Glue Gun and attached the piece to the layer 1 roof base.

Now we have to calculate the proper angles for the end tiles.

July 28, 2002

Stick a tile along the edge of the layer 1 base as we did for the others.

Make sure rectangle piece is over the tip of the tile.

Trace a line where the 2 pieces meet. (The blue line is actually closer in real life, I just moved it a little to show you better what it should look like.)
