Use the Hot Glue to attach the pieces all around
the top side of the Layer 2.
The blue arrows point to the pieces I have just added.
Remember to NOT align the pieces with the Layer 2
edge. You want it to stick out somewhat. |

Turning the roof upside down, we can cleary see the
excess sticking out like we wanted. |

Use a Very Sharp Xacto, this is a good time to snap
your blade.
Cut along slowly around the edges of the layer 2
so that you get a flush inner circle. |

July 28, 2002
The blue arrows point to the thickness we just added.
It was hard to see in the photo, so I added a bit
of orange to the foamcores and better indicate that
there is now, an extra ring of foamcore all the way
around. |

Now for the layer 3, the main ceiling.
We want to get a piece that sticks out over the edges
of the Layer 2 shape. To do this... |
July 28, 2002
Flip the Layer 2 ring on it's back and place it on
a new piece of foamcore. Trace the inside circle with
a pencil and DO NOT cut anything yet. |
July 28, 2002
We want the circle to stick out so draw a circle
all the way around at about 4-5 cm distance from the
line you just traced. Sound confusing? |
July 28, 2002
The orange line is the trace line from the layer
2 center ring.
The green line is the extra 4-5 cm we added and the
line that we will be cutting.
The cut circle shape of the foamcore was already
cut from a previous step, I just used a leftover piece
that fit, instead of a new sheet. |

Now that we have cut along the outer markings we
are ready for the raisers. |

July 28, 2002
Just another quick view to make sure the piece sticks
out properly. |
July 28, 2002
I decided that 2 cm was the best looking height for
the center so I measured 2 80 cm X 2 cm strips along
with 1 50 cm X 2 cm strip (not shown, for the bottom
straight edge of the circle)
Use the Xacto every cm or so to score the strips
and allow them to bend around the ceiling.
Make sure NOT
to cut all the way through to the other side. I think you
guys are becoming pros at this technique by now :) |
July 28, 2002
Use the Hot Glue and attach the strips all the way
around the edges of the Layer 3 Ceiling. |
July 28, 2002
Now we can place the layer 3 on top of Layer 2 and
careully turn it around. |
July 28, 2002
Here we go, what the finished ceiling looks like.
Pretty cool eh? I love it :) |
July 28, 2002
Ooops, did i say finished - LOL.
I was looking at the reference photos and notice
one more tiny detail... you don't have to do this
but I think it makes it look better.
There is a 2nd layer detail on the Layer 1 strip.
I took a new
piece of foamcore and layed the Layer 2 on top. |
