Next color was the dark grey.
I used my paintbrush for this step and applied the
paint VERY slowly.
Using the width of the brush to do the line contours
around the raised platform. |

Now I used my roller again to apply my light grey
paint.
I didn't get everything perfect in the first aplication.
This picture represents many touch ups.
Reaply dark grey, red and light grey over and over
little smudge areas untill it is all perfect. |

I was going to make decals for the support collums
to hide the foamcore joints but thought I would try
and paint one to see what it would look like.
I was pleasantly surprised, and thought the paint
would better match in colors, so I painted the other
three.
|
|
 |
For the thin
grey line in the center, I painted a sheet of paper with
the light grey paint. Once dry, I used a VERY sharp Xacto
blade to cut a thin line that I aplied to the base with
a Gluestick. |

I used my Hot Glue Gun to secure the support beams
in place.
This will help keep the roof in place and prevent
the walls from warping as well. |

So here we have it folks...The completed architecture.
Not bad though I think the actual set might even
be a bit bigger then this. We'll have to see once
all the furniture is made and put in place.
I will start with the desk and chair and Martin has
started the 2nd guard statue. Once dressed up it will
really come to life :) |

First thing I decided to do was to cut a hole in
the doorway so that I would be able to take some pictures
from the front with the sofas in frame.
I measured the width of the door decals and then
cut out the shape. I hope you can see there is still
a portion of foamcore on each corner.
|
|
 |
This is to help
give depth obce painted on the inside but as well as keeping
the ceiling from colapsing - LOL. |
 |
|
September 22, 2002
Back to the front wall and start of the doorway framing
detailing.
Trace the archway shape onto a piece of foamcore
and then draw a 1cm line all around towards the outside.
Then measure another 1cm from that line going out
and cut using a good sharp blade. You want a clean
cut. |
|
 |
 |
|
September 22, 2002
Use your Hot Glue to apply the detail frame to the
front wall.
Can you see where it is in the picture?
I should have maybe colored it, it's the embossed
frame, I'm sure you see it :)
|
|
 |
I also used
some DAS clay (it hardens in air instead of heat) above
the blue paneling. With my finger I created an inner groove
to make it resemble fancy wood finishing. |
 |
|
September 22, 2002
For the inside wall details you just need to cut
2 strips 62cm long.
First 11cm wide and the second, 2cm wide.
Score one side of your foamcore so that it can bend.
Always make sure NOT to cut all the way through to
the other side.
You don't want extra pieces :) |
|
 |
 |
|
September 22, 2002
Attach the 11cm piece to the center of the wall with
some Hot Glue.
I colored the strip green so you can better see
where it fits on the wall.
And remember to wash your clothes with SUNLIGHT
!!! LOL |
|
 |
 |
September 22, 2002
Now take the 2cm strip and attach it to the center
of the 11cm strip.
You can see I added some blue to help you see better.
All details are now in place. |

Onto the paint.
I used the same latex color as I did in the main
office. Since I need to cover the white, I painted
the entire surface.
Make sure NOT to add TOO MUCH WATER to dilute your
paint. It will cause warping and ruin the look of
the entrance.
|
|
 |
If your paint
looks like runny peanut butter thats good. If it looks like
tomato juice, thats bad, too much water. |
 |

The beauty of the design for this room is the use
of multi colors for depth and texture.
I used my pale grey paint and covered the front bottom
panels, front frame detail and the center wall detail.
I also painted a pattern on the floor. |
|
 |
You can better
see that in the finished picture. It's basically grey where
the sofas are placed and a red patch in the center for when
you walk in. |
 |
September 22, 2002
A trick to make your door look cleaner...
Paint the edges of the foamcore first so that if
ever your decals do not completely cover the surface,
you won't have ugly white spot.
|
|
 |
I also painted
a black line down the center to fit with the joining of
the decals. At the bottom of the picture are the door printouts.
You can find these in the Download Texture Section. |
 |
September 22, 2002
I printed the images on full sheet label paper so
I would just have to peel the back and not worry about
glue.
DON'T use Hot Glue with decals because it leaves
ugly impressions on the paper since the glue dries
in a bump and not flat. |
