Now the fun part where your creation starts to come to life. I just use plain grey latex paint, the same color as the office walls. Make sure NOT to add TOO much water to your base or you risk warping the foamcore and ruining your chair.

Final paint details...A lighter shade of grey for the pillows and armrest strip and side detail. I must say it looks pretty nice. All that is left to do is sculpt those lamps. I should have those done this weekend. Wait till you see tomorrow what these look like in display :D

October 27, 2002

I rolled out some Super Sculpey and then used the cap of a poster tube to cut my circles with. The size is about 3 cm wide.

October 27, 2002

On the left is the cut out circle and on the right what our Lamp top is supposed to look like. It's so simple, all I did was use my fingers to flatten inward the upper edges.

October 27, 2002

Here are the 4 finished pieces. I poked a hole using a straw so that the toothpics could pass through the other layers. Now use a heat gun or put your sculpey in an oven to harden.

October 27, 2002

Here are all the pieces you will need to make the lamps. Basically you need 5 circles of shrinking diameter from 4 cm at the top to .5 cm at the bottom.

October 27, 2002

To assemble 1 lamp grab 1 row of circles and round off the corners by squishing inwards with your fingers. Try to make it as smooth as possible. Heat to harden pieces A and B only.

October 27, 2002

Circle B will be glued on to the Bottom of Circle A using my Hot Glue Gun. On the right is the flipside of Circle A with Circle C placed on top. Use your tools to make a smooth joint of Circle C to Circle A then poke a hole with a straw and then Heat To Harden.

October 27, 2002

Repeat the same technique for the remaining circles. Place D on top of C, Smooth the joint and the Heat to Harden, Place the tip E to D and the Heat to Harden.

October 27, 2002

You can now attach Circle B to bottom of Circle A. The Hot Glue will cause a small gap. You can use Super Sculpey to fill in the holes and have a cleaner lamp.

October 27, 2002

The 2 lamps are placed on the Sofa to see if they fit properly. Don't push them TOO hard onto the toothpics or they will colapse and the Circle E Tip will fly off. Trust me, I learned the hard way :D

October 27, 2002

Now to paint. I got out my Metalic Silver Paint and applied it to the entire surface of the lamps. This is not Latex, so try not to get any on your skin. You will need paint remover.

October 27, 2002

Once the silver is dry, I took out my White Latex and applied 3 coats onto Circles B and C.

October 27, 2002

Now put the lamps back onto the Sofa's toothpics and you are all set. Just like in the movie :)
