On the left is the resin copy from the sculpture
Martin made for me.
Since I want to keep the scale but a little taller,
I decided to start with an old Playmates Starfleet
Academy Star Trek Figure. I removed the legs and arms
but the face is perfect scale for the statue. |

I started by wrapping a layer of Super Sculpy around
the figures waist and shaped it to a shape that resembles
the finished statue. |

Let's start with the body.
I use my crusty roller (I know it's time to clean
it, LOL) and flatten some Super Sculpy to about .5cm
thicknes. |
|
 |
 |
|

Then I cut out a shape that resembles the statues
left side. |
|
 |

This shape fits from the bottom base to the top shoulder. |

Here is a better view of it's position before you
wrap it all the way around the figure.
Use your fingers and Sculpy Tools to smooth the
bottom into the curved base. |

Next I cut out a "U" shape just to the
left of the arm socket.
On the right side, I smoothed the shape into a curved
multi-layered shape.
You will better understand what I mean by viewing
Picture 009. |

Place a similar shape on the statues right side and
wrap around to the backside. |
|

Here you can better see what I mean by sculpting
circular overlaping layers.
Use your fingers to smooth out the Super Sculpey
and your tools to perfect the curves. |

Now for the Right Arm, I rolled out 3 thin layers
of Super Sculpey and draped them over the arm.
With each layer, I just lowered it a little bit more
to give it the draperie effect.
I then stuck a shishkabob toothpick into the shape
to create the spear. |
|
 |
 |
November 10, 2002
Once the drapes were completed, I pressed the shape
onto the body and sticking the bottom of the toothpick
into the base center.
This helps support the arm and helps maintain the
drapes in the proper positioning. |
|
 |
 |

I then used my finger to blend the shape into the
figures base.
Now I am ready to use my Hair Dryer to harden the
Super Sculpey and avoid finger prints and warping
of the draperies. |
|
 |
 |

Now to make the big drapes that cover the shoulders.
Flatten some Super Sculpey into rectangle shapes
about .25cm thick. |
|
 |
 |
November 10, 2002
I placed the first rectangle over the back shoulder. |

Here is a great side view. Now fold it towards the
body. |
