Now it's time to paint the plaster and super sculpy using watered down latex paint.

August 19 2000

I thought making tongues was boring - Try saving your cat's toe nail clippings - LOL. Just kidding, I actually made these 95 thorns out of super sculpy. This is what happens when you leave them too long in the oven. They stink and turn black - LOL - great now I have to paint them :(

Now we're cooking, this is what the thorns look like glued into the tongues holes and painted with latex white and beige paint.

Next step is to find some sawdust. I used my circular saw and cut up presswood. I find that it looks a lot like sand when used in a diorama.

To keep the sawdust from blowing away, paint the plaster with 50% water + 50% white glue.
After sprinkling the sawdust over the glue we get this cool sandy texture.

Now its time to make Jabba's Sailbarge. I scanned a picture and printed it to scale for the figures taping all th epapers together. Because of it's size, wanting to keep it in scale, I can only fit the front half.

August 20 2000

Using foamcore as a skeleton I wrapped a 1/16 thick cardboard like a skin. This gives a nice smooth base for the barge

August 20 2000

Using archive pictures for reference, I cut out patterns in carboard. I glued them on to the "skin" base with a hot glue gun.

With even only the first level of detail, it's starting to come alive. I LOVE IT !

August 27 2000

Well I used more foamcore for the railings, understructure and sail posts. The sail is a plain cardboard sheet cut in the proper shape and suspended by a center rod.

August 27 2000

Ok, This is what the scale of the Sail Barge looks like within the diorama box.

August 27 2000

Now were getting somewhere - niub niub is sooo excited - LOL - This is just a first coat of latex paint, now the detailing and weathering must be done

This will give you an idea of where I am headed in terms of layout. It's fun to compare this with my sketch on page 1.

September 12 2000

After making and cooking the Sculpey snake shape base I applied Super Sculpey and detailed the beak's pallet by closely examaning my reference pictures from the official star wars site

September 12 2000

Next was the sculpting of the tongue which was a lot easier the the pallet - LOL

September 14 2000

Today I added scaley details to the top lip and skin texture to the top of Sarlaac.
