Time to make the "boiler" things you see
on the right side behind the pipes. Get yourself some
spare change and purchse these plastic bubbles from
vending machines. I gave the toys inside to my cat
to chew on - LOL. Total cost...$ 4.00 You only need
the transparent end with the edges. |

Take a poster tube (found at any business depot store)
and cut at 2 inch intervals |
June 10, 2001
Once you have your 4 pieces, Cut a slit from the
top to bottom. |
June 10, 2001
Now the Bubbles edge can fit and rest inside the
Poster Tube. Never mind the gap since it will be hidden
with the decals that we will apply later. |

After only 2 minutes, we have our 4 Bubble domes
in place. Use your Hot Glue Gun and place a couple
of drops of hot glue on the inside rim to make sure
the Dome won't pop out. |

Now there might be some small cracks between the
joints. I used Super Sculpey and smooshed it in the
seems to give the illusion of one smooth shape. Now
we are ready to paint. |

Take a look at this still from Episode 4. Notice
the shape of the "engines" ? A pretty good
sence of observation on my part no? ;) heh heh. These
are the objects that will complete the diorama. |
June 10, 2001
Since I don't have the right color paint I moved
on to the "Engines" that Leia hides behind
just before the Stormtroopers stun her. Take a Poster
Tube and cut 2 cm wide sections. |
June 10, 2001
Next, use the Hot Glue Gun again to secure the poster
Tube Rings to the Engines of Sebulba's Podracer. Now
finally after weeks of torture "Niubniub, what
do you need Sebulba's Podracer for in a Leia's plans
Diorama ?" I can finally show you what I noticed
while examining the movie... |

After fiddling with foamcore for 1 1/2 hours and
not getting the result I wanted I decided to go with
Super Sculpey and making a mold instead. A good decision
I think you will agree.
(You can still use foamcore if you wish. Just adapt
the basic shape to fit Sebulba's Pod Engines) |
June 10, 2001
So take the strip of Super Sculpey and wrap it completely
around the Pod Engine leaving about 1 inch exposed.
Now with your finger, squish and slide the Super Sculpey
to the end of the cardboard ring. |
June 10, 2001
On the left you can see the finished result after
smoothing the Sculpey with a flat edge tool. Now cut
2 pieces of about 1 cm thick. The edges are at an
angle like a slice of pizza just not pointy at the
tip. |
June 10, 2001
This is where you attach your slice. Use your tools
to blend the pieces together. I discovered that if
you wet the Super Sculpey's tool with water it will
smooth the Sculpey even more. Pretty amazing results. |
June 13, 2001
Now we must cut out a box shape where the pipe shapes
poke out. Use a tool to trace a guide then an Xacto
Knife will cut right trhough without damaging the
details you have made so far |
June 13, 2001
This is what the hole looks like when the excess
is removed. Use your tool to smooth out any jagged
edges your Xacto knife may have caused. Now repeat
on the other side. |
