Finally after 20 minutes we have our 4 domes ready for the Tantive hallways. Well almost :)

June 17, 2001

Cut a 4 inch strip of foamcore. This will act as our ceiling support for the 2 upside down "boilers".

June 17, 2001

I used the same decal I applied on the poster Tubes. Just place them overlaping each other and fold over to the other side. This is just so that we don't see white foamcore in the final pictures.

June 17, 2001

Use a Hot Glue Gun and attach the 2 domes to the center of the foamcore strip. As simple as that.

June 17, 2001

Now the 4 "boilers" are in their correct place. See how the foamcore strip rests on top of the diorama walls? The domes look like a different color, not 1 piece like in the film, but it still looks cool.

Here are the tubes placed on the right side of the corridor. Doesn't it look like the movie set :D Hee hee.

June 23, 2001

I went to the hardware store to try and find an object that resembled the little cap plugs that are on the end of the pipes in the movie's set. I found these nails with protectors on them made of rubber.

June 23, 2001

These are the perfect shape, almost :). I used my xacto to cut each protector in half. Giving me a better thickness to go with the scale of the diorama.

June 23, 2001

Once that was done, I used toenail clippers to shorten the length of every point. This now gave each protector the look of a pipe end. I took some wooden skewers for shish-ka-bob and cut various lenghts and used my hot glue gun to attach each protector to a stick.

June 23, 2001

Now here are my 4 resin copies painted with dark grey car paint. Gives a cool metalic look.

June 23, 2001

I wanted a multicolor effect so I covered the Engine Exausts with paper. Now I was ready to spray on a second color, a beige car paint that was a match to the set piece.

June 23, 2001

Once dried, I removed the papers and was ready for the black coat on the inside edges and the grooves on the Engines stands.

June 24, 2001

Here you can see the finished paint job. The black I used was regular latex paint so that I could apply it with a small paintbrush.

June 24, 2001

Next step was to paint the sticks black as well and the tips a light grey. All with latex paint. Then with hot glue, I secured each stick to the Engine's resin cast. I had made 4 holes but in the end decided that 2 looked better. Less then in the movie but who will notice right? LOL

June 24, 2001

Here we see what all the finished assembly looks like. Since these are oily gross engine things, we have one remaining step to do...
