When Benjamin saw the phantom menace, he was looking forward to the action figures, vehicles, and playsets based on the movie. Once again, Hasbro produced a great line. However, something bothered him. Hasbro produced two pod racer figures (Gasgano and Ody Mandrell) but did not produce their racing
pods. A spark of an idea all started with a bottle of Coke :).

After seeing the shape of the coke bottle, Benjamin saw the potential shape of one of Gasgano's pod engines. He immediately went out looking for reference images for the pod racer. Best sources he says was the art of Star Wars: the Phantom Menace.

Benjamin first acquired two plastic coke bottles. He removed the labels of the bottles, then cut off the twist section and the bottom base of the bottle leaving the basic shape of the engine.

Then I cut up sheets of styrene into the shapes of the front vents. I then cut slits into the bottle open end and insert the sheets of styrene. I then shaped the styrene to form the front vents.

I then sealed the vents with model glue. At the funnel side of the engine I found model cones from some old toy and attached with glue. This gave the rear end of the engine. At the location of were the label was located, I glued on many different model pieces. These pieces were cut sections from model kit frames. These were the exposed piping seen on the engines.

Next I took Crayola fat markers
and cut them up to make the four smaller engines mounted on the sides of the main engine. I then repeated the steps for the second pod engine. I found an extra Sebulba's pod engines at a flea market and cut off the power couplings off half way and mounted them in the center of the engines. I made the energy beams by melting, stretching and shaping clear model frames.

I also wanted to give the appearance that this vehicle came from Hasbro's drawing boards and cut off the handle off of Sebulba's pod engines. I had to cut it down a bit in order to fit the new shape of the custom engines. I then used scrape model parts to make the pod for the pod racer. To connect the pod to the engines, I used wire coat hangers. I had to modify Gasgano's legs so that he can sit in the pod.
