Mantell was inspired by the Shadows of the Empire novel and N64
game.
Dave started with a wooden frame that used to hold cassette tapes.
He cut away sections in the sides and built up "hills"
with styrofoam pieces then added paper mache.
Dave used LOTS of old toys and odds n' ends to make the "junk"
from the scrapyard. Most of the toys were old G.I.Joe toys but
there are some Transformer, Youngblood, and Robotix toys in there
as well.
The paints used were Pewter Gray Craft Paint and a "Flek
paint" to give it a dirty, gritty appearance.
